Eco-Blog
Sharp volunteers enjoy talking with students around the country and learning about your ideas to help the planet. On the Eco-Blog, Sharp Solar Academy volunteers share students' ideas and their own observations about climate change and the environment. Together we can make a difference.
Compost: Make Use of Waste
In my family, we like to cook, a lot! Every time we cook there is a ton of extra food waste… from carrot savings, bread crust… all of this ends up going into the trash. But, it turns out it doesn’t have too. Most food waste, expect for things like meat, and garden waste can be composted. All you have to do is put the food and garden waste into a special bin, over time the waste transforms into highly useful and rich soil for your garden. Just like that! The EPA has a handout for kids on composting. You can find it here: http://www.epa.gov/opp00001/kids/pestpatrol/index.htm
Cities, such as Los Angles, sometimes will help you by providing classes and cheap composting bins. Here is where I found mine. I can’t wait to start getting some use out of my waste! http://www.lacity.org/SAN/solid_resources/recycling/composting/bins.htm
