Eco-Blog

Sharp volunteers enjoy talking with students around the country and learning about your ideas to help the planet. On the Eco-Blog, Sharp Solar Academy volunteers share students' ideas and their own observations about climate change and the environment. Together we can make a difference.

Trees Can Be Green and Free

I love trees and what’s great, is that they are also a big help! Trees provide shade that cools down a building’s temperature, reducing the need for air conditioning. This in turn lowers electricity use and lessens air pollution that comes from the generation of electricity.

Trees also help clean the air and reduce global warming by absorbing CO2 in the atmosphere. And of course they are fun to climb on. Because I love trees and live in the City of LA, I took a short online class from the LA Department of Water & Power and they will send me a free tree! Here is their free tree website http://www.ladwp.com/ladwp/cms/ladwp000744.jsp.

Even if you don’t have a yard to plant a tree or your city does not give you one for free, it turns out you can volunteer to plant trees with groups like the Million Trees LA http://www.milliontreesla.org/.
